Key West, aka The Conch Republic, is Miami’s neighbor to the south. Most South Floridians tend to flock down to Key West at one point or another. Maybe it’s for the relaxation, the slower pace of island life, or the Jimmy Buffet, Margaritaville-esque feeling you get as the sun goes down.
Don’t be fooled though, Key West is not just a boring island full of sunsets, Ernest Hemingway’s mutant cats, and oversized frozen drinks. There is a lot of partying to be had here, especially on Duval Street and most definitely during Fantasy Fest. This particular photo gallery showcases my visit during Fantasy Fest for three days.
Fantasy Fest is an annual party in Key West during the last week of October. Launched in 1979, Fantasy Fest is absolute madness in the best possible way. Try to picture people dressed in crazy costumes, scantily clad girls, body painting, parades, music, and thousands of intoxicated people that are ready to get the party started. It’s an over the top Halloween celebration/spectacle!
In addition to joining the Fantasy Fest Madness, I enjoyed my typical Key West routine: I explored the city, checked out some of the bars, and of course, relaxed on the beach. Luckily, my hotel was right on the beach. It was amazing and convenient to be able to open my patio door and step onto the sand. And of course, I ate plenty of seafood and delicious key lime pie.
