Stone Temple Pilots - Filter
This was definitely one of my favorite shows I’ve gone to. I got to meet Stone Temple Pilots and Chester Bennington from Linkin Park and had carte blanche to shoot wherever I wanted. One story I can tell you about this show is that I had to find a music store so I could buy an STP and Linkin Park CD to have them sign (all my music is digital).
After searching Sawgrass Mall which is across the street from BB&T Center, I finally found what I was looking for. I got to the venue and checked in with security to get my meet and greet pass and photo pass. Once the band was ready, I was escorted to meet them and spend some time hanging out.
Once I met them, I pulled out the CD booklets to have them sign and I gave the STP booklet to Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz who were original members along with singer Scott Weiland. I gave the Linkin Park booklet to Chester… I didn't think he'd sign the STP booklet since he had nothing to do with the greatest hits album I bought earlier. I was a little surprised when he grabbed it and did a shoulder shrug and said "what the hell, I'll sign it". I was kind of thrown off and handed the Linkin Park booklet to STP and before I caught what I just did, they laughed and said "no no not yet haha" as if to say they weren’t joining Linkin Park... yet.
I was anxious to see the show and hear how Chester sounded singing STP songs; I must say he's a good fit. I read Scott Weiland's book recently and can understand why he was fired since he was always late, had drug problems, and acts like a diva. The book details his many issues with not just STP but also Velvet Revolver and all the rock n roll cliches that go along with it. Slash and Duff McKagens also detail the drama in their books as well. I'm glad the rest of STP were able to find a singer who fits the sound and has their act together, I myself know how difficult and frustrating being in a band can be.
